A Local’s Guide to Camping and Caravanning Tasmania (eBook)
Camping your way around Tasmania is such a unique experience, and whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, this eBook is the ideal place to start planning your holiday of a lifetime!
There is plenty of free information out there on the internet to help you plan your road trip, but at the same time it can take FOREVER finding the dozens of articles that matter most for creating your itinerary, while weeding out the ‘influencers’ who have barely set foot on the island yet claim to be ‘experts’.
This eBook cuts through all that wasted time, putting all the essential advice, tips and information you need, right at your fingertips.
Most important though?
I live and work here in Tasmania, and I am always available to answer any questions you might have, helping you create your perfect Tassie itinerary.
This eBook provides you with more than 130 pages of trusted advice from a local road trip expert answering questions like:
- Can you ‘wing it’? Or do you need to book ahead?
- Where are the best low-cost and free camps in Tasmania?
- Which roads should you avoid in Tasmania?
- With 3-4 months, how should you structure your itinerary?
- How much do you need to budget for a Tassie camping holiday?
- When should you book the Spirit of Tasmania ferry? And how much will it cost?
- Which is the best company for renting a campervan or motorhome?
- Camping with pets – where can you stay?
- What about pet-friendly tours and attractions?
- And much, much more…!
It isn’t just my perspective either.
Building on my experiences, I have worked closely with first-time and experienced Tassie road trippers to test this eBook, and get their advice on the best campsites and other tips for having a relaxing time on the island.
In fact, there are whole sections of this eBook that use their tips and travel stories to help you with itinerary planning and other parts of the planning process!
What can you expect to find in this eBook?
There is so much helpful info jam-packed into this eBook that it is impossible to show you everything, but here are some examples answering the most common questions I get from road trippers planning a camping holiday in Tasmania…
What are other travellers saying about this eBook?

Don’t waste your money
eBooks are becoming more and more popular these days, and I have noticed a few Tassie options popping up for sale on Facebook and across various websites.
We all love to promote Tasmania, but there are a couple of questions you need to ask to ensure you aren’t wasting your money and to help you plan the best holiday in Tasmania.
How up-to-date is the eBook?
We get a lot of backpackers and caravanners visiting Tasmania, and many of them fund their travels by writing about their travels.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this at all (I’ve done it myself) but one of the things about Tasmania is that the tourism industry is rapidly evolving, and while their information may have been correct when they visited, there’s a good chance they could have visited five years ago, and a lot would have changed since then. Even some of the big travel companies like Lonely Planet can only afford to issue occasional updates.
My original eBook was first launched in 2020, and it is already up to its 11th edition – that’s a major update every six months!
This most recent eBook will be no different, with updates scheduled to occur at least annually, and more often as new information comes to light (eg. the new Spirit of Tasmania ferries arriving in 2026-27).
Is the eBook written by a local?
Together with my wife I have called Tasmania home for more than 20 years, and we are always road tripping our way up, down, and around our own backyard.
Of course, there are many big attractions, sights, and tours that everyone knows about, but there are plenty of little tips and tricks that only a local can discover – especially when it comes to finding those hidden, out of the way camp sites that can much such a difference to your adventures. Not to mention the day-to-day practicalities of finding dumping points, keeping your power topped up, and planning your itinerary and road trip route to make the most of your limited time.
It is this unique Tassie perspective that I love sharing with you in my eBook.
I am always seeking feedback!
If you are reading my eBook and using it to plan your holiday and you feel that I am not answering your questions – please let me know! Not only will I provide you with an immediate response, but I will also incorporate that information into the next version of the eBook so everyone else can benefit.
Similarly, if you finish your travels and think there is an aspect of my eBook that can be improved for other travellers, let me know by email at andrew@lapoftasmania.com.au
I am always looking for new ways of helping visitors to plan and enjoy their Tassie holiday, and I look forward to incorporating your feedback into future versions of my eBook.
Print your own paper copy!
I would love to provide a hardcopy version of my eBook, however the publishing process is very costly and I want to ensure my eBook is as affordable as possible for every single visitor to Tasmania.
One fantastic and cost-effective solution is to save your eBook to a USB stick and to take it to Officeworks or similar office supply store (email and cloud-printing options are also available). There, you can arrange for a colour copy to be printed and you can also get it spiral-bound with a protective cover front and back.
For just a few dollars you will have your own paper copy to keep in the car, and where you can make your own travel notes!
14-day Money Back Guarantee
I have received nothing but fantastic feedback from thousands of happy travellers all around the world, but if that’s not you then don’t stress – just get in touch within 14 days at andrew@lapoftasmania.com.au and I’ll provide a full refund of the purchase price.

If you are a first time traveller to Tasmania I would highly recommend this eBook. It gives a great overview of the what, when, and how of Tasmania. It also goes into great depth to help you plan your time well, be it a quick 10-day drive/fly or a leisurely 4-month extended holiday. Great information!

As someone who just recently purchased a caravan for my family, I have found this eBook quite useful, not only does it give travellers options on how many days but also option to tweak the itinerary for their own interests or spontaneity. This eBook is very thoughtful and gives a expanded overview of what Tasmania has to offer and all times of the year.

“I am very impressed by the detail and range of suggestions in the book. I feel it covers lots of topics that are so useful for our Tassie plans. eg. 4wd, free-camping, some caravan parks, walks, Bruny Island, parking in the cities, discounts, what grey waste is(!), good travel times, parks passes…etc. This ebook is a very useful tool as I had no idea where to start when planning our trip. I like how it presents separate ‘patches of interest’ so I can work through each section as we get to it.”
Jean Herd –
Great ebook! A simple and easy guide to read and find your way back to certain points.
From someone who is completely new to caravanning the book sets out major points etc. An essential guide to travelling around Tasmania .

This e-book is amazing, also for travellers from overseas. When travelling from overseas you need to plan just a little extra, because we don’t always have months to travel! This e-book will tell you everything you need to know about traveling around Tasmania with a campervan/motorhome, like how to plan your trip, where to stay, what to see and detailed information on when to book so you don’t miss out on things during your trip. I love it!

This eBook is a great place to start when planning a caravan/camper trip – it covers all the necessities!
Grahame & Nerilee Reid –
We found this eBook extremely informative, especially the pages specifying the different regions. The lists of accommodation options in these areas make it so much easier for newcomers to Tasmania to pick and choose what to see. It has made our trip planning so much easier!
Also don’t forget the various “discounts” that Andrew has included in this book!!
Of particular interest to caravaners is the “Roads to avoid” section!
