Important Update (October 2023)
During covid, and the resulting travel restrictions, the iVenture Pass was temporarily unavailable for Tasmania and across Australia. Since then, the Pass has been reinstated for Melbourne, Sydney and Gold Coast, however they have not yet reinstated the Pass for Tasmania.
Rather than delete this article I will keep it online in the hope that Tasmania is reinstated – but please be aware that the information below is no longer correct.
Warm regards,
Andrew.
If only we were all millionaires – without a worry in the world when it comes to money!
The reality is that holidays can be costly and it is important – especially for families – to find effective ways of saving money, while still having a great time.
That’s why we were so excited when we discovered the iVenture Tasmania Flexi Attractions Pass – a pass that will get you entry to some of Tasmania’s best attractions while saving families as much as $250.
At the same time, we also discovered a few ways in which it definitely isn’t a good deal.
Keep reading to find out more, and to work out whether it’s the best way for you and your family to save big $$ on your Tasmania road trip.
What is the iVenture Tasmania Flexi Attractions Pass?
The iVenture Tasmania Flexi Attractions Pass is a pass that you buy online before you travel to Tasmania.
You can choose to buy one in person when you arrive in Tasmania, but there is only one outlet in Launceston where you can do this, making it an inconvenient option for most travellers.
The Pass gives you free access to your choice of 3 attractions, out of 10 attractions on offer.
You need one Pass per person, with options for both adults and children (at a discounted price). Family tickets are not available.
The Pass is valid for 3 months from the date of purchase – so don’t buy it too early!
How does the Pass work?
The process from start to finish is very simple.
It’s that easy!
⚠️ Download or Pick-up?
If you choose to pick up your Pass on arrival, it is important to know that the only collection point in Tasmania is from Tamar River Cruises office in Launceston.
Only choose to pick up your Pass on arrival if you are starting your holiday in Devonport or Launceston and you can get to the office before you want to experience the first attraction.
For this reason most travellers will find the electronic, downloadable Pass to be much more convenient.
What attractions can I choose from?
In Tasmania there are 10 attractions for you to choose from:
- Gordon River Cruises (West Coast)
- Huon River Jet Boat (Huon Valley)
- Experience Tasmania – Richmond Village Tour (Hobart)
- Experience Tasmania – Mt Wellington Tour (Hobart)
- Experience Tasmania – Hobart 1/2 Day Tour (Hobart)
- Red Decker ‘Hop-on Hop-off’ Bus (Hobart)
- Tamar River Cruises – Cataract Gorge Cruise (Launceston)
- Tahune AirWalk (Far South)
- Platypus House (Tamar Valley)
- Seahorse World (Tamar Valley)
How much does the iVenture Pass cost?
The iVenture Pass costs:
- Adults (16+) – $120
- Children (4-15) – $69
- Family (2 Adults + 2 Children) – $378
💰 'Supplement' costs
You’ll find that the two most expensive attractions on the list aren’t quite free. Instead, you will need to pay a small ‘supplement’ fee at the time of booking.
But don’t worry, you’ll still save a lot of money!
- Gordon River Cruise – Supplement of $40 per adult, and $15 per child (normally costs $140 for adults and $69 for children)
- Huon River Jet Boat – Supplement of $15 per adult or child (normally costs $85 for adults and $60 for children)
Is it worth it?
The most important question!
The answer is a definite ‘Yes’ – but you need to use it right, because if you choose the wrong attractions you could end up losing money.
The Good: Our research has found that if you choose 3 ‘high value’ attractions then you can save as much as $115 per person, or $250 per family!!
That’s a huge saving, and would go a long way toward keeping your holiday under budget, or letting you splurge on a little luxury somewhere else.
Caution: Our research also shows that if you choose 3 ‘low value’ attractions then you can lose as much as $40 per person, or nearly $200 per family!
So how do you know if you are going to save money or not?
We have crunched the numbers (it made our brain hurt!) – and the results are very interesting.
You’ll see two tables below – one for adults, and the other for a family of four (2 adults + 2 children).
Each table lists all 10 attractions that you can choose from, showing full retail price, the price using the iVenture Pass, and the total saving – should you choose to visit that attraction.
We then show you some popular combinations that will save you money, and some things to watch out for that will lose you money.
* Prices are valid as of November 2019
Adults
How to Use This Table
- Remember that it costs you $120 for an adult iVenture Pass
- Choose 3 attractions
- Add together the 3 values from the ‘Saving’ column
- If this is more than $120 then you have saved money overall and you should buy the iVenture Pass
- If this is less than $120, then that combination of attractions is going to lose you money and you should either:
- Choose different ‘higher value’ attractions and do the calculation again; OR
- Don’t buy the iVenture Pass
