Located in the tiny hamlet of Hagley, just off the A1 highway about 25mins drive from Launceston, Hazelbrae Hazelnuts is a wonderful destination for the whole family that flies way under the radar!
My wife and I first heard about Hazelbrae on the Tasmanian foodie grapevine. Some had fallen in love with the lush, grassy avenues between the trees, others raved about the delicious hazelnut-inspired menu on offer in their on-farm cafe, and when we started searching online we also saw some fantastic reviews of their ‘fine dining’ Friday dinners…
We quickly added it to our ever-growing list of ‘must try’ Tassie foodie options, and made sure we stopped by on our way back home from a road trip to Cradle Mountain.

What an absolute delight!
Christie and Michael have transformed this rural property into one of Tassie’s best destinations for the whole family.
It is a beautiful farm, surrounded by row up on row of hazel trees that look stunning in autumn when the leaves start to turn colour.
The first thing you have got to do at Hazelbrae is pull up a pew at their cosy little cafe and sample one of the wonderful dishes on their well balanced menu. From light bites to substantial affairs, hazelnuts are a common thread throughout – the Hazelbrae Sweet Plate is an absolute must!
What better way to work off a lovely light lunch than with a self-guided tour through their expansive hazelnut orchard? Children under 12 can experience the tour for free, and adult tickets are only $8 (or 50% off when you mention the Lap of Tasmania!).
Visit Hazelbrae Hazelnuts and mention the Lap of Tasmania to receive half-price entry to their wonderful orchard, including self-guided tour and ‘Golden Hazelnut Hunt’.
They also offer a more comprehensive ‘Experience Flavour’ tour of the farm with the farmers themselves. This where you can learn all about the history and traditions of the farm, sample nuts straight from the shell, and relax with a glass of wine and curated picnic.
For the ultimate foodie experience, keep an eye out for their Friday night 4-course dinners. If you are staying nearby or in Launceston then it would be a really interesting way to spend your evening.
Whether you are based in Launceston or passing through on your way to/from Cradle Mountain, a visit to Hazelbrae Hazelnuts is guaranteed to be a highlight of your Lap of Tasmania!
