Have you got the rolling hills and sparkling waters of the Derwent Valley on your Lap of Tasmania itinerary?
You really should!
This beautiful region is a paradise for foodies, photographers and romantics, and Hamlet Downs is the ideal place to base yourself in the iconic ‘Valley of Love’.
One of the best things about a road trip around Tasmania is how quickly and easily you find yourself escaping the hustle and bustle of city life.
Rustic little hamlets like Fentonbury fly under the radar for so many travellers, and that is exactly why it makes the discovery of a B&B as good as Hamlet Downs – just an hour’s drive from Hobart – such a memorable experience.
The lush, tranquil setting is perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation, and there are plenty of opportunities for activities as well. Why not indulge in a cooking class with a Burmese twist, head out on a tour of the local wineries, or explore nearby Mt Field and all its breath-taking nature trails?
However you decide to spend your time you can be sure there will be a warm, delightfully appointed room waiting for you back at Hamlet Downs at the end of the day!
- Queen Suite – Cute and cosy, and simply perfect for snuggling couples.
- Hamlet Suite – A lovely 2-bedroom option that is great for small families – the free-standing wood fire is amazing!
- King Suite – Another fantastic options for couples, with gorgeous views of the surrounding fields, pond and gardens. If you enjoy relaxing with a book in hand then you’ll love the warm, light-filled verandah!
- The ‘Hideaway’ at 54 – A fully-equipped 3-bedroom cottage sleeping up to 6 guests. Located separately to the three suites, the Hideaway is ideal for larger families that value their privacy.
Tasmania has a reputation for its gourmet produce, and you are going to savour the dining options available at Hamlet Downs.
A light and fresh Continental breakfast is included with all direct bookings, but if you’re feeling like something more substantial then you have got to try their a la carte cooked breakfast. The menu is always changing with the seasons, including options such as farm made sausages, duck egg omelette and apple fritters with maple butter and berry compote!
You don’t need to stress over dinner either. Self-catering is always a handy option, but if you’re anything like me then you’ll be going straight for one of Trish’s restaurant quality dinners available to be served direct to your private suite.
One, two and three-course options are available, with the clever menu reflecting Tasmania’s finest seasonal produce – with many dishes incorporating their own homemade award-winning condiments and Trish’s Burmese heritage.
Many of these dishes are also available on their ‘Heat in Your Suite’ menu. Frozen, pre-pared meals that can be delivered to your suite for you to heat, eat and enjoy at your own leisure. As they say, “Perfect for lunch but big enough for dinner!“
Honestly, if you’re a foodie then Hamlet Downs is a destination in itself, and together with Trish and Steve’s friendly service and tips and advice for things to see and do in the local area, a 2 or 3-night stay is an absolute ‘must’ for your Tassie holiday.
” Thank You Trish and Steve for sharing the delights of your wonderful Farmstead. It’s a little slice of heaven! You are both such wonderful hosts that we felt right at home, right away. Trish you are a superb cook! Much Appreciation. “
