Triabunna Barracks

Accommodation | East Coast | Triabunna

Tasmania’s sunny East Coast is an absolute must for your Tassie itinerary.

Secluded beaches, riverside walking trails and plenty of fascinating convict history are all great reasons to drive this stunning coastline, but there’s something very special about the tiny town of Triabunna that you won’t find anywhere else in the world – Maria Island!

This ‘island off an island off an island’ is my favourite place in Tasmania – even better than Cradle Mountain and Freycinet – and Triabunna Barracks is the perfect place to stay for easy island access and ultimate relaxation.

With its rough-hewn 1840s Georgian sandstone walls and glowing Tasmanian native timber floors, Triabunna Barracks would have to be one of the most striking B&Bs you will find anywhere in Tasmania.

Your hosts, John and Kim, have put their heart and soul into maintaining the wonderful character of the historic barracks and stables, transforming it into an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Special Offer for Lappers

Use the LAPOFTAS code when booking direct online, or mention the Lap of Tasmania over the phone when booking your cosy coastal retreat at Triabunna Barracks and receive:

  • 10% OFF all room rates
  • a complimentary platter and drink (wine/beer/G&T or tea/coffee)

There are three rooms available; The Bakery (access friendly), The Loft and The Quarters – and all are simply stunning!

I love the contrast between the rustic stone walls, the gnarled and pitted beams, and the sleek lines of the ultra-modern and spacious bathrooms. Every room also comes with an impossibly deep, freestanding bath that is just what you need after a day full of exploration!

And when the sun goes down? Why not put your toes up by the wood fire and enjoy a Tasmanian wine, spirit or beer from the well-stocked honesty bar? Cosy underfloor heating will keep the cool night air at bay and you won’t get a better night’s sleep in your sprawling king bed.

Breakfasts are a real highlight every morning at Triabunna Barracks. A homemade continental breakfast in the historic ‘Stables’ is provided to all guests, and the option of a cooked breakfast is also welcome.

Triabunna Barracks is dreamy and luxurious! Kim and John’s hospitality is as warm as the log fire that welcomed us back from Maria Island. Our room was supremely comfortable and that deep bath soak was just sumptuous! An unforgettable experience in a truly special corner of Tasmania.
