When did you do your Lap of Tasmania?
Spring – August to November 2019
How many days did you spend in Tasmania?
We stayed 3 months.
What vehicle did you use?
We explored Tasmania with our own dual-cab Landcruiser ’79 Series with a 22ft New Age caravan.
What car hire company did you use?
We used Europcar.
What were your favourite experiences?
- Our favourite experience in Tasmania as a family was Maria Island!
- This was closely followed by our climb up Mt Amos (overlooking Wineglass Bay)
- We also loved walking the Cape Raoul track (near Port Arthur) and experiencing snow at Cradle Mountain National Park!
How many of the ‘Big 12’ did you see?
We saw 10 of the ‘Big 12’.

What was your favourite accommodation?
Our favourite places to stay were the BIG4 St Helens Holiday Park, and Gowrie Park Wilderness Village (an easy drive from Cradle Mountain).
At Gowrie Park Wilderness Village the owners were so friendly and accommodating, we felt like we’d been adopted into the family! And Big4 St Helens was really well set up, with level slabs, a bit of grass, the camp kitchen was incredible and well stocked.
What tips and advice do you have for other travellers?
- If towing a caravan, research the roads you plan to take as some we found to be quite narrow, steep and with hairpin turns. These were the three sections we found a little bit challenging:
- Take your time, there is no rush in Tasmania!

“Our time in Tasmania was nothing short of incredible. We were especially taken by the breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife found in Tasmania. We will be back, perhaps on a more permanent basis!“
